Podcast #13

This week, hardcore from DC. The bands here are an interesting mix. Minor Threat originated the straight edge movement, Fugazi (which also features Ian MacKaye) are one of the most important post-punk bands and are the model of DIY (Do It Yourself) ethics, Rites of Spring are arguably the first "emo" band (though very different than the emo bands of today), and Bad Brains are one of the few "afropunk" bands.

Podcast #12

This week we're in La with the hardcore scene. Two of these bands, The Minutemen and Black Flag, share a record label, SST. The Dead Kennedys ran into trouble with the PMRC.

Podcast #11

This week features music from the short-lived No Wave movement from New York, and from figures associated with that movement, with noise rock, and with art rock. This will probably be the most difficult week to listen to. Pay attention to Sonic Youth and Ciccone Youth in the middle of the podcast - they're easily the most popular bands here and are more art rock than noise (and will have a new album out in a few months).
